Boom Technology Joins The Supersonic Aviation Sector With An Unbelievably Cheap Super Jet

Boom Technology - a startup company headquartered in Denver, Colorado is working to enter the race of the supersonic jet transport with a plane flying at a faster speed than Concorde.

The event of 2 last Concordes stopping their operation in 2003 was a major setback for the airline industry. However, the race of the supersonic aviation is reignited when NASA announced their plan to restore this type of transport with the X-plane project and many other companies also participated in the development of their own hypersonic jets. This is a very positive sign, because the more competitors there are, the cheaper the supersonic air transport services will be.

Concorde is a super aircraft and in exchange for its speed, passengers must pay a lot of money. Concorde has a capacity of 128 passengers, flies at the speed of Mach 2 (nearly 2450 km/h) and the average price of a return flight between London and New York at around $ 12,000. Meanwhile, Boom promises this price will be reduced to only about $ 5,000 with the plane that they are manufacturing.

According to Bloomberg, Boom Technology said the ability to create a replacement for Concorde has only been possible for 10 years. Thanks to the improvements in modern designs, composite materials, engines, and software, Boom Technology is strongly confident to build an aircraft which can fly from London to New York in 3 hours 24 minutes with the speed of Mach 2.2.2

The cabin will have about 40 seats divided into 2 lines, so each passenger has their own window and walkway. To reduce the weight, the seats equipped are as the same standard of chairs used in the first class of domestic flights. Moreover, to reduce the total flying time, the jet will fly at the height of nearly 18,300 meters, and at this height, passengers will be able to see the curvature of the Earth and it helps the plane to fly 2.6 times faster than other commercial planes.

Boom Technology currently has 11 employees, six of them are pilots and the interesting fact is that Boom Technology was originally formed by Blaker Scholl - a software engineer who used to work at Amazon for 5 years. He is also known for a popular mobile application – Kima Labs, which was acquired by Groupon in 2012. Scholl is just 35 years old and the money he got from Kima helped him to pursue his dream of creating something more meaningful. 2 years later, Scholl successfully convinced many seniors working in the field of aviation.

Until now, Boom has raised the amount of $ 2.1 million and the project is under the development. However to realize the idea, Boom may need several hundred million dollars more. We still don’t know when the final version will be released, but Scholl revealed that a British airline signed a deal to buy the aircraft with the price of $ 2 billion once it is ready. He said: "I want to live in a world where you can go anywhere in just 5 hours and for only $ 100. It may take decades, but I think we will finally achieve this goal."
